Silpo in my native city Kharkiv was among the best supermarkets in Europe in terms of design.
In total, there are three Ukrainian stores out of 32 stores in 15 countries in the Europe’s Finest Store 2022 rating, compiled by the leading publication in the retail market European Supermarket Magazine. In addition to Kharkiv, this list also includes supermarkets in Kyiv and Uman, all of them from the Silpo chain.
The design concept of each of them is truly unique, and it is not surprising that European experts have chosen them. Silpo in Kyiv is made in the Brazilian style, the Uman Silpo uses elements of the Japanese Kabuki theater, and the design of the Kharkiv one is presented in the dieselpunk style — a retrospective of scientific and industrial objects of the 1920s — 1950s.
Kharkiv Silpo was opened last year, but on March 9, its dieselpunk was significantly damaged during a Russian rocket attack on the city center. Today, the consequences of the March bombing have already been eliminated, and buyers can come again to one of the best European supermarkets.
