Russians has turned the Bakhmut Choral Synagogue into ruins
Jan 11, 2023
Bakhmut is the oldest city in the Donetsk region. The first mention of the appearance of the Bakhmut guard-fort dates back to 1571.
Before the October coup of 1917, it was also a city with a large Jewish community: every fourth of its inhabitants was a Jew. In the middle of the 19th century, the Choral Synagogue was built in Bakhmut, which became the architectural decoration of the city. It survived both civil war and World War II. Almost nothing remains of it today — Russian shelling has turned the synagogue into ruins.
