INSS: the Israeli authorities must more clearly express their position on the Russian-Ukrainian war
--
In its forecast report for 2023 the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) recommends that the Israeli authorities more clearly express their position on the Russian-Ukrainian war. The supply of weapons to Ukraine, if such starts, will be an additional plus in the eyes of the Western partners of Israel, the United States in the first place.
In fact, official Israel is suggested to start acting in the same way as Jews around the world have been doing since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
According to researchers, the pro-Ukrainian stance of Israel may have a positive impact on Israeli-American relations. It is their possible cooling that is named as one of the biggest potential threats to Israel in 2023.
According to INSS, this threat comes in no small part from the judicial reform announced by the new government of Israel, which challenges the existence of the only democracy in the Middle East.
At the same time, the absence of Israel in the list of democratic countries providing military assistance to Ukraine only adds to the uncertainty in its relations with the West.
The INSS annual report has already been submitted to the President of Israel Isaac Herzog.
