About 30,000 pilgrims came to Uman this year to celebrate the new year 5784
Camouflage kippah, Ukrainian flags and the Star of David. The photo shows a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign Rabbi who came to Uman from the front line to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the tomb of Tzaddik Nachman.
In total, according to some reports, there are up to 5,000 Jews fighting in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including about 200 Israelis. This completely destroys the Russian myth of Nazism in Ukraine.
Despite the threat of missile attacks and difficult logistics, about 30,000 pilgrims came to Uman this year to celebrate the new year 5784. By the way, it was about the same number of pilgrims before the war.
The pilgrimage of Breslov Hasidim to the grave of Tzaddik Nachman, great-grandson of the founder of Hasidism Baal Shem Tov, began immediately after Nachman’s death in 1810 and continued until the 1920s, The Tzaddik’s grave was destroyed during World War II, and later on even residential houses began to be built on the territory of the old Jewish cemetery.
Only in independent Ukraine the Hasidim were able to buy out the land plot and restore the place sacred to many Jews. They also insisted that the burial place remained in Uman, despite the proposals to rebury the Tzaddik in Israel.
Every Breslov Hasidim strives to visit the grave of Tzaddik Nachman at least once in his life. At the same time, many try to make the pilgrimage on Rosh Hashanah, as it is believed that the new year will be especially happy then.
