81-year-old Sergey and Viktoria Gredeskul, 81, have been found dead in Ofakim in southern Israel, 25 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. Hamas terrorists shot the couple in their home on the first day of the attack.

Sergey Gredeskul was an outstanding theoretical physicist. His entire scientific career until his repatriation in 1991 was connected with Kharkiv.

He graduated from the Khariv University, worked at the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology and at the Institute for Low Temperatures, was a student and co-author of Academician Ilya Lifshitz, who was also from Kharkiv. The latter, in turn, was a student of another Kharkiv Jew — Nobel laureate Lev Landau. Sergey Gredeskul was a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine.

Sincere condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the victims.
